Connect your harness
Your harness is the program that runs your coding agent, such as Claude Code, Codex, OpenCode or Pi. Every harness reaches Baltor at one address, https://baltor.ai/mcp, over the Model Context Protocol (MCP) with streamable HTTP. Each request carries your Baltor key in the Authorization header, read from BALTOR_SERVICE_TOKEN in your environment.
Before you start
- A Pro plan for the library: Agent Feeds + Harness Files, $29 a month. Compare plans
- A Baltor key for this tool. Each tool or device gets its own key, shown once. Create a key
- Your harness, installed on the machine that runs the work.
-
Put your key in the environment
This prompt hides the key while you type it, and your shell history records only the command.
The configuration holds the variable name; your token stays in your environment. Set it in the shell that starts your harness.
-
Add Baltor to your harness
Merge one entry into the file your harness already reads, and keep your other settings as they are. Each quickstart then walks through a first search and a first download.
The Baltor Harness quickstart covers the harness that runs overnight work. Seventeen more tools connect at the same address: Cursor, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot, Windsurf, Cline, Roo Code, Kilo Code, Aider, Goose, Amp, Kiro, Zed, Qwen Code, Crush, Factory Droid, Hermes Agent and OpenClaw.

Check the connection
Ask the service first. Its capabilities record names the protocol versions, the transport, the search modes and the download limits.
Then give your agent its first search. A search returns references; the body arrives with the download your agent chooses.
Ask your agent
Search Baltor for a CSV validation tool. Show its source, licence and requirements before downloading it.
Connect with OAuth, key-free
Harnesses that support OAuth connect at the same address. You approve each connection in your browser, and its access stays within the scopes you allow: search, downloads, usage or billing.
Reference
Where to go once your harness is connected.
Agent Feeds
13 source collections with 28 source references, sources checked October 8, 2026. Each collection comes as JSON Feed, RSS and Markdown, so your agent reads the sources before it chooses.
/feeds/catalogue.json/feeds/collections/<id>.md
Library search
A search returns up to 50 references, matched by words or by hybrid matching, each with its kind, licence, size and checksum. A download names one item and the checksum you expect, and arrives checked against its SHA-256.

Overnight work
Queue tasks on the Baltor Harness with your own model access. Set a call budget and a time limit, keep task checkpoints and read the morning report. Max plan, in Public preview.

Keys and connections
One Baltor key for each tool or device, shown once. Choose its allowed operations and when it expires. Revoking takes effect on the next request, and files you already downloaded stay on your computer.

Limits
What one request, one download and one account can do at a time, read from the capabilities record. The table follows.
Step effects
Send Baltor-Step-Effects to state what a step may do. Reading files is the default; a file that declares more effects downloads once the step declares them too.

Limits
Read from https://baltor.ai/api/v1/capabilities on October 25, 2026. The record is the source of truth, so ask it before you plan a large job.
| Limit | Value | Field in the record |
|---|---|---|
| References per search | 50 | search_results |
| Operations at once, per account | 4 | concurrent_operations_for_each_account |
| Request size | 64 KiB | request_bytes |
| Response size | 16 MiB | response_bytes |
| Body returned inline | 16 KiB | inline_body_bytes |
| One download | 1 MiB | download_bytes |
| Refused sign-in attempts, per minute | 30 | failures_allowed |
| OAuth requests, per service process | 240 a minute | OAuth rate limits |
| Protocol versions | 2025-11-25, 2026-07-28 | versions |
One downloaded item is the measured unit, at a flat monthly price. One item at the version you selected counts once. Searches, second looks at the same reference and refused downloads are free. Usage and what you pay for
When something is refused
Each refusal from the service names its reason. Work through this connection checklist first.
The key is set where the harness starts. This prints the word set and keeps the key itself hidden.
echo ${BALTOR_SERVICE_TOKEN:+set}The protocol version matches. A request that names another version is answered with the versions the service serves today.
The key is current. Keys stay active until they expire or you revoke them. Create a new one on Keys and connections.
The service is working. The service status page reads it live each time you open it.
A timed-out action is settled. If an action times out, first check whether it happened. Reconcile an uncertain outcome before repeating an external action.
